Blai Bonesnapper
Blai is a male hill dwarf fighter/assassin from Tieli.
Description
Blai is strong and stocky and has an aura of "don't mess with me or you're dead". He has leathery, warty, reddish brown skin, and dark brown eyes. He looks gnarly and weathered, with not many teeth, large strong warty hands and a wrinkled face. His mousy brown beard is long and bushy, as is his wavy, matted hair.
Personality
He has a great love of drinking profusely and taking drugs, especially hallucinogens, which he prefers to take at sea alone on cold, calm days in the hope of encountering some dwarven mermaids. It is his desire to one day find the fabled Rake of Iron associated with the Finnish mythology.
If challenged or involved in any sort of bar dispute, he will offer to play 'fingers' with his challenger. It is from his skill in this activity that he has become known as The Bonesnapper as he has broken numerous fingers and wrists of his opponents in his over-zealous joy of causing pain to those who would challenge his opinions.
Blai is professionally grumpy, bad tempered, irritable and confrontational. He is normally quiet, unlikely to ever trust or believe anyone, usually only speaking to criticise or insult. He is highly suspicious of others and his treachery is such that he will bide his time, perhaps for years, before taking his revenge on those who would cause him insult. He is inclined to do as he says he will, sticking to the literal truth of his words rather than what others may think he implied. He will certainly steal from the party's treasure stash if he can get away with it, although generally he prefers his own company as nobody will insult him or disagree with him then.
His tendencies are to be moody, aloof, pessimistic and cruel. He is greedy, hard hearted, harsh, deceitful, mean, stingy and selfish. Blai's intellect and piety are average, as is his general bravery, though he can tend towards the foolhardy at times, especially if his passions are raised. He is an energetic character, always on the go from the time he wakes up until he goes to sleep, although he won't usually speak to anybody about what he is actually doing, however mundane.
Blai has a remarkable memory for precise details (INT check). Besides being bad tempered (WIS check or becomes angry) and irritating (WIS check or will deliberately cause irritation), he is also colourblind, and doesn't believe in colour. Everything is black, white or grey.
Background
Blai has always been a rather sour dwarf. After killing his wife for insulting his beard, though all she did was suggest he comb it before going to work one day, he was ostracised by the rest of his clan and fled from them before he was brought to justice.
He decided that the best place for him to be was the last place anyone would look for a dwarf - at sea. Before long he had changed his identity and his name from Baylyn to Blai and found work as a crewman on a coasthopper.
Blai continued to work the boats for several years as crewman, docker, and eventually as petty officer. After a few years and one particularly violent storm, he settled in Tieli, far from his clan, and there he set up a home in the dwarven quarter of the city. Blai became a fully paid up member of both the mercenaries' and assassins' guilds there.
Right now he feels as if he has come a long way from his tribe and his roots in the north of Darfuria. Also he is feeling a little old, having just turned 90, and wants to make enough money to achieve his full potential of levels, before embarking on some journeys to fulfill his ambitions. He would especially like Condo to accompany him on those journeys as they both workship Loviatar.
