It's Horrible
It's Horrible was the name of an unlikely band of musicians created by Martin. Essentially they were a rap band of sorts, with everybody having particular skills and talents. They all met up and found they wanted to be musicians and tour the world making music, money and having fun and adventures. While not all of their adventures are noted, there are still a few clues.
The troupe consisted of:
- Monty, TN male satyr bard; HD 5, AC 5, HP 44, worshipper of Pan.
- Bleuchiaprabanstiur, CE male derro magic user; HD 9, AC -4, HP 62, atheist.
- Lief the Brown, CN male human thief level 1 (had been an 8th level fighter and was seeking to become a bard), AC -1, HP 67, worshipper of Odin.
- Dûbûmashnûz the Foul, LE male ogre mage magic user, HD 5+4, AC 4, HP 31, worshipper of Lei Kung.
- Paradniast, CE male bugbear cleric, HD 3+3, AC 2, HP 22, worshipper of Hrugek.
- Ugergrerg, CE male ogre barbarian, HD 4+2, AC 1, HP 34, worshipper of Vaprak.
- Orin Jade, CG female sirine magic user, HD 4, AC -1, HP 24, worshipper of Aerdrie Fraenya.
- Airtch, LE male goblin cleric, HD 7+3, AC 2, HP 41, worshipper of Maglabiyet the Mighty One.
From memory, Monty and Lief were the main rappers with Orin Jade wailing beautiful melodies as the backing singer. Airtch was a goblin shaman and the best dancer. Bleuchiaprabanstiur was some kind of DJ, using illusion magic to create decks, lighting and amplification. Ugergrerg, Paradniast and Dûbûmashnûz were backing rappers, adding things like "yeah" to the performance and looking cool.
The group acquired their name from an audience member at their first performance, who expressed an opinion about the music he was hearing. The world was not yet ready for the ensemble's version of gangsta rap.
Ugergrerg was probably the lead gangsta. He was a dodgy art dealer, who specialised in paintings, and was known to art galleries and other art dealers, using intimidation to great effect when conducting his business.
According to the DM notes, all of them were once in a canoe in Kaskara harbour, travelling along the coast searcing for a bugbear temple. Bleuchiaprabanstiur was about to come down with the flu. Eventually and somehow, they managed to arrive outside the Tower of Mirkoth, although whether or not they ever entered the tower is not known.
It would appear that during their travels they encountered bandits, giant gar and hippogriffs. A few such creatures were defeated, although most of the bandits and hippogryphs were charmed by the various members of the troupe.
In an attempt to figure out what instruments, if any, the band might be able to play, we brainstormed a list. This is probably not complete nor accurate, and may or may not be useful.
Spoons, dejmbe, congas, bhodran, fiddle, lute, lyre, mandolin, bazouki, accordian, didgeridoo, cowbell (more cowbell!), bongos, balalaika, panpipes, horns (tuba, trombone), conch, birembo, maracas, clapping, steel drums, body slapping, concertina, bell, bottle, dulcimer, harp, zither, banjo, kazoo, triangle, harmonica, flute, bagpipes, sitar, human beatbox, wobbleboard...
