Mr Plock's Roof

Quiney is not just a chicken farmer and the mother of Cay of the West. She is a magic user as well! She lives at the far western edge of Darfuria's capital city, Deraheib.

When Tessa was establishing Quiney's character, there was some gold left over. In fact, there was enough for 900 chickens! Yes indeed, Quiney bought 900 chickens with her remaining gold.

Quiney loves her chickens and will not sell any of them for meat. She does sell the eggs though, and at present has no rooster. There is a large chicken pen in the back yard of her home.

Quiney's first adventure was played on 18th February 2023. This was the first time that Tessa ever played a magic user, so it was a simple tale to allow her to become familiar with some more of the mechanics of the game.

01.04.1259: Quiney was tending her chickens when she was greeted by her next door neighbour, Mr Plock. He said that one of his children had lost their ball and it was stuck on his roof. He wondered if Quiney might be able to fetch it down for him.

Quiney was happy to oblige and cast Spider Climb. She climbed up the side of Mr Plock's house and found the ball on the flat roof. There was also a mouldy old sack up there, but she ignored this and climbed back down.

Naturally Mr Plock was very pleased to be able to give the ball back to the children. When Quiney mentioned that there was a mouldy old sack up there as well, he was curious and wondered what it might contain. Quiney's Spider Climb had worn off by now, but she said she would cast another spell the next day and fetch the sack down.

Later that same day, Quiney heard a commotion in the back yard. A big mangy white stray dog was trying to attack her chickens! She ran out and attempted to shoo it away, but it didn't go. She attempted to give it a clonk with her staff, but rolled a N1 and fell in some mud and chicken dung. The dog ran off with one of her chickens. Quiney waited all day for the dog to returrn, but it didn't.

02.04.1259: The next day, Quiney awoke in her bed. She had fallen asleep in her dirty clothes and now her bedding was covered in mud and chicken dung as well. She sighed and went outside. The dog was back! It ran away as Quiney approached, so she was relieved about that at least.

Mr Plock was in his garden. When he saw Quiney looking rather filthy, he fetched an old brown and beige robe for her to change into. Quiney cast Spider Climb again, climbed up onto the roof, and dropped the mouldy old sack down to Mr Plock. It fell onto the ground near him and split open, spilling its contents. Money!

Mr Plock was surprised and happy with the find. He shared the coins with Quiney for her troubles. Quiney went home and washed her dirty clothes and bedding.

03.04.1259: After breakfast, Quiney heard barking and squawking outside. She ran into her back yard to find the wretched dog bothering her chickens again. She managed to give it a good hard wallop with her staff for two points of damage, and the dog bit her in return. Fortunately Quiney did not catch a disease.

Then Quiney rolled another N1 and fell in the mud and chicken dung again. The dog ran off to lick its bruises. Quiney changed her clothes, then went to visit the nearby alchemist to buy the spell components for Find Familiar. This cost most of the gold she had been given by Mr Plock, but she felt it was worth it.

When she had everything she needed for casting the spell, she wandered into the hills east of Deraheib. There she cast her Find Familiar spell and after five hours, a small cat appeared. It seemed very friendly. Quiney named her new familiar Tiny and they went home together.
